45 years since unveiling the Skyline GT-R, Nissan is celebrating by making 45 special commemorative edition models based on the phenomenal 2015 Nissan GT-R. Unfortunately, these will only be available in Nissan’s native country of Japan, but it’s a mark of the 2015 model’s exceptional engineering that Nissan has chosen to create this historic automobile around its wonderful example. You can learn more at Knight Nissan in Swift Current, but in the meantime, read on for more information.

Commemorative Crafting

Since this commemorative edition is to be as high-spec as they come, Nissan has based the 45th Anniversary model on the 2015 GT-R’s Premium trim, which provides Canadian drivers with all the power of a 3.8L twin-turbo V6 engine from its luxuriously sculpted heated leather seats.

Japan’s new collectors car will be styled in Silica Brass — as was the legendary R34-gen 2001 Skyline GT-R M-Spec — and comes with special branding on the inside of the hood, as well as underneath. There are sure to be more special touches announced, but this is already shaping up to be an exquisite vehicle.

High-Performance Pedigree

By basing itself on the 2015 GT-R, the new edition has a lot to live up to. We already mentioned its powerhouse engine, which supplies a jaw-dropping 545 hp and is augmented by a slew of additional performance devices.

For example, the 2015 Nissan GT-R uses a six-speed sequential dual-clutch transmission, which can make gear shifts in as little as 0.15 seconds and can attain ideal front-to-rear weight distribution. Capability is further enhanced by the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system, which sends power to the appropriate wheels during cornering to correct oversteer and understeer.

Legendary Safety

A car as powerful as this needs all the protection technology it can get to ensure a confident drive, and that’s exactly what Nissan delivers with the 2015 GT-R. The safety of the GT-R is built right into the bodywork, with Zone Body front and rear crumple zones to deflect impact energy away from the cabin, which is further enhanced by an energy-absorbing steering column, side-door guard beams, and hood-buckling creases.
